Select sources and search your library

Control the material available to a task and distinguish attachments from saved sources.

On this page

Select sources that directly relate to the question. A clear scope makes it easier to check whether the answer is grounded in evidence.

Screenshots show the Chinese application interface in a Test environment with example data.

Select material for a task

  1. Open the source picker near the conversation composer.
  2. Choose whole sources or specific passages and review the selection.
  3. Confirm source-reading authorization, then send the question.
  4. Open the sources attached to the answer or output to see what was actually used.

Selecting a whole source, selecting a passage, and authorizing library-wide search grant different scopes. Read access does not automatically allow knowledge-library changes.

Choose a source scope, then verify the selected items. Source selection does not authorize changes to the originals.

  1. 1Distinguish selected sources from the entire library.
  2. 2Search for and select the sources needed for this task.

Search the whole library

When you do not know where a source is, enable library-wide retrieval and describe the topic. Search uses keywords and available local semantic retrieval; it can fall back when the semantic service is unavailable.

Search hits locate sources. Only passages actually read enter the evidence record; a count of search results is not a count of fully read documents.

Attachments and permanent sources

Conversation attachments initially belong to that conversation. Save individual attachments to the Library when they need to become long-term reading or research material. If deep research requests traceable sources, save the attachment or skip it for that round as prompted.

The composer add menu offers attachments, skills, image generation, CodeMode, and plugins. A visible entry does not mean its service is configured.

  1. 1Attach a file, link, or temporary note for this conversation.
  2. 2Choose a skill, generate an image, or toggle CodeMode.
  3. 3Search for a connected plugin here.

If a source is missing

Check that text extraction completed, the selected scope is correct, and background indexing is ready. Reselect changed sources when necessary. Expanding to the entire library does not fix failed extraction of an individual file.
