Browse code and use CodeMode

Connect read-only source code and understand optional script-assisted processing.

On this page

Code sources support browsing and understanding a local project. CodeMode is an optional way for the Agent to combine tools using scripts. Neither automatically expands permissions.

Screenshots show the Chinese application interface in a Test environment with example data.

Connect source code

  1. Open Code and choose a local folder or enter its full path.
  2. Add it as a source and open files from the tree.
  3. Use the symbol outline to navigate declarations and select code for questions.
  4. Update the source's search index when you need knowledge retrieval.

Source browsing is read-only by default. Disconnecting removes the related index but retains external files. For code changes, choose a working directory and permissions in the corresponding conversation.

Start with a local code folder. This entry connects a browsing source; choose write permissions separately in the task.

  1. 1Choose the local code folder you want to browse.
  2. 2Alternatively, enter an absolute path and add it.

Use CodeMode

CodeMode settings choose automatic use or off for new conversations. Toggle it for the current conversation from the composer's add menu; a label indicates the selection.

The Agent chooses ordinary tools or a script as appropriate. Enabling CodeMode does not mean every message executes a script. Existing conversations retain their setting, and external Agents do not use it.

The composer add menu offers attachments, skills, image generation, CodeMode, and plugins. A visible entry does not mean its service is configured.

  1. 1Attach a file, link, or temporary note for this conversation.
  2. 2Choose a skill, generate an image, or toggle CodeMode.
  3. 3Search for a connected plugin here.

Check execution

Expand the work process to inspect actual reads, tools, and results. Successful script execution does not establish that the task result is correct. Ask for appropriate checks when working on code that requires testing.

Next step

See reusable skills for repeated processing or external Agents for another executor.

Configure model, media, and connected services as needed. See each article for requirements.
