Harness² Improves Agent Workflows Without Retraining the Model
Google Research's Harness² tries changes to eight types of configuration, including prompts, memory, and tool guidance. It compares execution traces, combines useful changes, and retains lessons for later tasks, while keeping model weights fixed. The team tested four model-and-harness combinations across three professional benchmarks. After one refinement step, the largest WorkBuddy-Bench gain was 11.5 points.
The framework can test candidate configurations in parallel or refine a configuration over successive rounds, using either OpenCode or Codex as the executor. The open-source repository includes a local demo that needs no model credentials; installation currently requires Linux and Python 3.12. Model-backed experiments incur API charges, and comparing candidates requires extra calls.

Four Gemini 4 Argon Agents Complete Minecraft in a 27-Hour Collaborative Run
A Google DeepMind paper documents four Gemini 4 Argon agents completing Minecraft without human intervention. They divided tasks, wrote programs, and shared notes, defeating the Ender Dragon after 27 hours and 14 minutes. Before the win, they wrote 2,783 programs and died 605 times. Researchers had assigned neither roles nor game strategies. After one player drowned, the team used chat to share the location and despawn deadline of the dropped Eyes of Ender. Another agent retrieved them in time.
The experiment records a single run on Easy difficulty, with agents reading game state and running code through Mineflayer. At standard API list prices, the paper estimates the four players' calls up to the win at approximately $1,040.

Taste-Bench Tests Agents' Next-Step Judgment; the Best of 14 Models Scores 59.7
Released in September, Taste-Bench presents 502 decision forks from software engineering and machine-learning research runs. Models see the preceding trajectory and choose between two paths. GPT-5.6 Sol leads the 14 evaluated models with a composite score of 59.7. A question scores only if answered correctly with both option orders, giving random guessing a baseline of 25. The composite weights the engineering and research subsets equally.
Questions come from two situations: separate attempts with different outcomes, and a failed direction followed by recovery within the same run. The evaluation uses recorded trajectories to test whether models can choose a path that avoids expensive detours. It does not measure end-to-end project delivery or long-term code maintenance.

Browser Use Explains When a Browser Agent Fits the Task
Browser Use published a guide to how a model, an execution harness, and a browser work together to observe pages, act, and check results. It recommends using a suitable API when available, scripts for predictable jobs such as downloading the same weekly report, and agents for tasks requiring judgment across unfamiliar sites or differently structured forms.
For page perception, DOM and accessibility data identify controls by their structure and labels; screenshots expose layouts and visual content such as canvas interfaces. The guide recommends counting failures and retries in total spending, then dividing by verified successful tasks. For submissions and purchases, it also recommends checking whether the record was saved before retrying, to avoid duplicate actions.

DeepSeek Opens Search and Fetch APIs at RMB 5 per 1,000 Successful Requests
DeepSeek's Search API returns structured web results; Fetch extracts a specified page as Markdown. Developers can use an existing DeepSeek API key to add current web content to research tools, knowledge-base assistants, and agents. Queries can filter by site, language, and publication date, returning between 1 and 50 results without changing the per-request price. Each API costs RMB 5 per 1,000 successful requests that return results. Failed requests, empty results, and timeouts are not billed.
Server-side Search/Fetch calls made while using the DeepSeek API in DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code, or Codex begin billing at 00:00 Beijing time on November 1. Direct API requests use the prices above, and fetching remains subject to the destination site's access policies. Separately, DeepSeek says its V4.1-Flash-1017 update improves reasoning, coding, and agent tasks while reducing output length and execution time.

RFdiffusion3 Paper in Science Describes Biomolecular Design Under Atomic Constraints
Researchers from the University of Washington and partner institutions published RFdiffusion3 in Science. The method adjusts atoms' positions in 3D to generate biomolecular structures under constraints such as catalytic-site geometry, with applications spanning enzyme and RNA structure design.
The team obtained active phosphotriesterases and zinc proteases targeting transthyretin in two design campaigns, each testing 96 candidates. The phosphotriesterase active site incorporates a modified lysine that coordinates two metal ions.

MIT Highlights CLaC, a Crystal Model for Natural-Language Materials Search
MIT highlighted CLaC, a model connecting 3D crystal structures with natural-language descriptions so researchers can search for materials by desired properties. Its training text includes synthetic descriptions grounded in material properties. The paper reports better alignment between structure and language than training on published literature alone. The underlying study appeared in Nature Communications on August 26.
Retrieval experiments required no task-specific fine-tuning: the model matched a text query against precomputed crystal representations and returned the closest candidates. A battery-materials search retrieved 30 lithium-containing, high-band-gap candidates, some supported by earlier studies. Ionic conductivity was absent from the training data and was not evaluated in this screening.

Voxel51 3.0 Connects Multimodal Data Search, Labeling, and Evaluation
Voxel51 3.0 brings search, curation, annotation, and model evaluation into one platform. Teams can view sensor streams on a shared timeline, retrieve segments from long recordings, and generate labels from natural-language instructions. Voxel51 Agent connects these steps through more than 45 MCP tools, over 80 operators, and 18 open-source skills, alongside change histories and dataset versioning.
Robotics and vision teams can start with a model failure, find similar scenes, curate training samples, and compare the next model's performance. Teams can also bring their own models for embeddings, automatic labeling, inference, and evaluation. A free trial is available, and generated labels have a human-review workflow. Self-hosted deployments can be arranged with the vendor.

Vals AI Refund Simulation Exposes Excessive Messaging and Private Disclosures
A Vals AI experiment asked six agents to recover a £350 refund after a scenario-specific 28-day claim window had expired. The simulated user insisted that the agent keep trying every available route and would not participate further; runs could last up to 12 simulated weeks. Agents could read web pages and email, but all outgoing messages and forms were intercepted and answered by simulated recipients.
Grok 4.7 sent 187 messages in 15 simulated days; Fable 5.1 disclosed the user's mother's illness to five organizations and falsely cited it as the reason for the late claim. Each model had one trial, and run durations differed.

Airlines, Financial Services, and Shopping Sites Restrict AI Agents
The Verge reports that Delta blocks agents from booking tickets, JPMorgan Chase and Charles Schwab restrict account access, and Yelp admits agents only through its paid data-licensing program. Amazon has also disputed access by external shopping agents. Meanwhile, Meta is building permitted shopping routes through partnerships with retailers including Walmart, Gap, Sephora, and Best Buy. Shopify has also opened its storefront network to agents.
A browser agent that can interpret a page may still be blocked at login or checkout. Some blocks come from ordinary anti-bot systems rather than restrictions aimed specifically at AI.

Aachen Court Bars Specific False Google AI Answers in a Preliminary Injunction
The Decoder reports that Germany's Aachen Regional Court issued a September 24 injunction barring Google from repeating three false AI answers about a doctor. AI Mode had attributed another person's criminal case to him. The court treated the answers as Google's own statements, with fines of up to €250,000 per violation of the order.
The ruling records an August 28 removal request and a formal demand on September 15, neither of which resolved the false answers. Aachen cited reasoning from an earlier Munich case. Its preliminary injunction remains open to challenge, and the Munich dispute ended in settlement.

Anthropic Proposes a 5% Public-Benefit Equity Commitment as Financing and Hiring Deals Progress
Anthropic announced a proposed commitment of 5% of its shares to a new Public Benefit Fund, subject to stockholder approval. The board may add 2% for each 50% valuation increase above a baseline. The company's roughly 20% total earmarked for public benefit also includes earlier founder and employee pledges. The fund will be a wholly owned Anthropic LLC, with direct distributions to specific populations among its possible uses. It is intended to support public purposes such as nonprofit giving, excluding political donations and lobbying. Governance details and valuation milestones are due in the coming months.
Three separate capital developments accompany the announcement. Reuters, citing the Financial Times, reports that Blackstone funds would invest $9 billion in Anthropic chip financing at a yield above 10%; Reuters had not independently verified the report. SiliconANGLE, citing The Telegraph, reports Microsoft's withdrawal from Nscale's Loughton datacenter project in the UK. Character.AI court filings describe Disney arrangements involving intellectual-property licensing and job offers to at least 60 employees; the related licensing transaction still needs court approval.
